ELOGIO DE LA PROFUNDIDAD

RE-USE OR DIE
In terms of urbanism, environment and economy, the re-use of disused buildings built along the previous expansion cycle, as this case, allows to repair wounds of the city and transform them in urban references for a new age. Re-using a built structure for administrative use and changing it to acquiere a domestic scale and character, generates challenges and singularities that intend to be solved by three strategies:

01. Structural, economical adequacy and adaptation to the regulations. The proposal is technically suitable and economically viable with the existing structure.

02. Domestic proportions. The challenge is to find the scale and relationships between the dwellings and the outside. There is a need to adecuate orientation, sunlight, ventilation and views.

03. Integration with the preexistence (gas station). The adaptation to the character of the gas station is addressed through continuity elements when needed and singular elements when relevant.

These three strategies are an action field to develop tools and actions to build the proposal. The main goal is to answer to the functional problems and to start a new lifecycle for this building to become an inhabited space.
